From Grains to Rain: the link between landscape, airborne microorganisms and climate processes – An ebook

2012/04/26

In our continuing effort to enrich interdisciplinary exchanges on the fascinating subject of biological ice nucleators and their potential role in atmospheric processes, we have written an ebook – or more precisely an e-essay.  Our goal in writing this text was to summarize the ensemble of the competence that we have garnered over the past decade from our exchanges with atmospheric physicists, to link it to our decades of experience with the biology of microorganisms that are ice nucleation active, to simplify the whole to make it accessible to all of the disciplines concerned, and to make it interesting to read for a wide audience.  This is a work of popular science, and so we have taken the opportunity to express our point of view.

This text is free.  It is meant to be read on a computer screen and is not in a printer-friendly form.  When you open the file, adjust it to about 80% of its initial size to get it to fit on your computer screen.  It is meant to be shared.

This text is also meant to be updated. We look forward to your appraisals and criticisms and the ensuing discussions.

Sincerely,

Cindy Morris and David Sands
